Unforgotten: Twenty-Five Years After Willowbrook
How the hell do 83% of people vote this negatively? This is a tremendous documentary and more than 25 years since the 25 years since Willowbrook was shut down, it's important for us to remember the horrors of the institutions we used to force people into and the atrocities that were imposed upon them there.Willowbrook wasn't an isolated case and while it may have been among the worst of such institutions, they were scattered all over the country. Ken Kesey's One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (later turned into a Jack Nicholson film) also came out around the same time and exposed further horrors, also significantly contributing to the shuttering of these places (his book, specifically, focusing on an Oregon institution). This subject should be taught in high schools. It's important that we be aware of what happened for over a century so that we don't allow this to happen in our society again.
