The first half of To Leslie is extremely bleak. Andrea Riseborough and Co. do a fantastic job at realistically portraying a person wholly lost in addiction. My friends and I agreed they did a good job at both making the audience empathize with Leslie as we simultaneously empathized with the people she'd hurt. However, I felt that the last third of the movie was significantly worse than the first, as it turned into a very romanticized story of recovery. I was glad that the movie ultimately had a happy ending but wish they could have made the process to get there less contrived. I don't think the ending ruined the rest of the movie at all, but it did prevent it from being as great as it could have been.
