The Platform is praised for its simple yet powerful critique of class hierarchy and human greed. The set design, lighting, and practical effects effectively convey a sense of dread, especially on lower levels. Iván Massagué's performance is highlighted. Watching in the original Spanish is recommended.
Sometimes simpler is better, and such is the case with Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia's The Platform. ⠀ ⠀ The Platform is a simple allegory and critique of class hierarchy and mankind's greed. Basically, The Platform is about a vertical prison where food is dropped down on a platform, level by level. As you can imagine, the higher up the better off you are. ⠀Outside of the messaging the set is cool as heck. You bounce from one level to another, along with Goreng (played wonderfully by Iván Massagué). Despite every room being the same, the sense of dread on the lower levels is palpable. The juxtaposition from cell 33 to cell 170 is stark, and it's all achieved with impressive lighting and practical effects. ⠀ ⠀ Make sure you watch in the original Spanish language. ⠀ This is just fun. A simple, effective and powerful sci-fi. The Platform is on @Netflix now, so check it out! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 3.5/5
How to do a dystopian future on a budget. Thought provoking. Similar in atmosphere to other budget type films like the cube. Thoroughly recommend it.
Surprisingly thought provoking and entertaining. Recommend a watch!
