The Nun relies heavily on jump scares and abrupt cuts, offering a one-dimensional horror experience. It provides some humor through the characters' antics and one-liners, making it a light start to Halloween. However, some found it mediocre and dull.
Jumpscares and jump cuts are at the heart of The Nun. If you can get past jerky transitions and one dimensional horror, The Nun rewards you with a few chuckles. Watching this merry trio bumble through a haunted abbey while dropping one-liners is a fun kick-off to Halloween season.
Set in 1952, The Nun follows a priest (Demián Bichir) and a young nun-in-training (Taissa Farmiga) sent to investigate a sinister Romanian abbey. Unsurprisingly, things get terrifying fast as they come face-to-face with Valak, the demonic nun from The Conjuring 2.The movie nails the eerie Gothic horror vibe with its dark castles, candlelit corridors, and unsettling atmosphere. Valak is creepy, and there are plenty of jumpscares, but the story feels thin and predictable, relying more on loud noises than true horror. It’s fun if you just want some spooky visuals, but don’t expect much depth.
Kinda super mid and boring?
