"Sinister" is praised for its unsettling and creepy atmosphere, compelling setting, and excellent performances. It effectively generates discomfort and tension, leaving a lasting impact on viewers. However, one review mentioned it wasn't as scary as expected.
I made the mistake of watching this at 3am, alone. Horror movies rarely leave an impact on me aside from being entertaining and sometimes providing fun things to talk about afterwards when watching with others. There are only a handful that I would watch a second time. The ones I enjoy typically have a cerebral element to them that go far beyond the jump scares. Slasher films are absolutely silly, imo. This film, however, is in a league of its own. It left me with one of the most creepy and unsettling feelings of any horror flick I’ve ever watched, which is what a great film in this genre is supposed to do. It’s hard to explain why it’s so unsettling without giving anything away, however, I can say that I don’t recommend watching it alone at 3am if you’re hoping to get any sleep afterwards. 😅
Not as scary as people say. Not scary at all really.
This is a movie that manages to work the dark atmosphere and tension like no others, everything here generates discomfort, a weight that transposes the screen and passes on to the viewer. The story is bizarre and very captivating, with the performances standing out, because much of the feeling of strangeness is due to the excellent performances of the cast. One of the best horror films I've ever seen.
