"Paths of Glory" is a soul-crushing anti-war film by Kubrick, dissecting war's corruption and indifference to life. It features exceptional cinematography, performances, and music. A brief moment of hope is offered through a song, highlighting soldiers' plight amidst political machinations.
Perhaps the most soul crushing film I’ve ever seen. Paths of Glory is the anti-war film.A surgical dissection of war. Kubrick masterfully explores the innate disgust, corruption and indifference to human life from the top brass to low-ranking foot soldiers.Kubrick offers just one, albeit brief, moment of hope in the entire film. The song of a traumatized, crying German woman forced to entertain a group of French soldiers. Although it’s lyrics are surely unintelligible to the audience, her voice brings a moment of quiet respite to the men (and the viewer), who are to be called back to the front quickly thereafter.Exceptionally shot, performed and scored. Hard to believe that Kubrick put this out at 28.
Truly shocking how the soldiers were fodder in the politicking of the top nobs . Really well acted by all the cast. Can’t recommend it enough
