The first half of "Metropolis" is highly praised, while the second half is seen as less coherent. Brigitte Helm's acting is outstanding, though her later reclusiveness is noted. Overall, the film is recommended for at least one viewing.
Loved the first half, liked the second half
I agree with Lisa, tbh. I love the first half, and only like the second half. It, uh.... Rather goes off of the rails for the second half, if I'm honest.Absolutely amazing acting by Brigitte Helm. Don't know why she became a recluse after the 1930s.Film is certainly worth a watch at least once
For a silent movie that's 2.5 hours long, it really kept my attention. The themes are a little simplistic, so I did want a deeper look into how the working class and upper class of the future would clash or view each other as well as more nuances to solutions. But what's available is still good. The visuals are fantastic especially for their time. The crowd work, the sets, the visual effects, all amazing. I watched this on Tubi and the same piano loop played through the whole movie, there has to be a better score somewhere out there.
