The 1980 "Maniac" is seen as super violent for its time but feels dated compared to the 2012 remake. It has charm with NYC locations and period costumes, though it's low-budget with a weak plot. The acting is decent for its era, making it an okay retro horror film.
I don't know if I liked it or not. Not much of a plot, it is low budget for sure. B Movie.
Super violent (I think) for 1980, but I don't think it even comes close if comparing to the re-make (which was better in every way other than being shot POV style). I watched the one with Elijah Wood (2012) first so even though they're a little different, I kinda knew what was gonna happen all throughout.Of course this one's super dated, but it has its own charm, what with the costumes, filming on location in NYC, and decent acting (for the time of release). If you're looking for a retro scary movie, then this one's all right.
