The movie "Look Away" has good production and a fine cast, particularly India Eisley. However, it feels clichéd and lacks subtlety, with predictable plot points and unnecessary nudity and sex scenes. It seems aimed at a younger audience but fails to deliver real thrills or surprises.
It's fine. Good production, fine cast, The stunning India Eisley. It's just too much of stories we've seen before and it's not nearly as subtle as it thinks it is being. When... "the other character"... gave her name, I winced. It was that bad. But, overall, it isn't a bad film and it's not a low-budget schlock film. It just didn't deliver any real thrills or surprises.
I might've found this shocking/deep/surprising when I was still a teen or in my early 20's, but today I see it for what it is: one big cliché. The acting isn't horrible, but it isn't great. It's pretty obvious that this is geared towards a younger audience that has no idea what a good psychological-horror/thriller is. Honestly everything this movie tries to do just ends up missing its mark imo. They were probably banking on the power of boners to save this one, and even with that they failed. (actors are all good looking, but looks can only get you so far when you're trying to bring a film to life)
Someone on Reddit said it best, this movie plays out like fetish film thinly veiled as a psychological thriller. Why include countless nudity and sex scenes when the main character is written as a high schooler? There are too many scenes that are unnecessary to the plot. The movie was definitely disturbing, but not in the ways I was looking for after watching the Netflix trailer.
