"Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is praised for its iconic status and influence on teen comedies, noted for its irreverent humor and memorable one-liners. However, it may not resonate with younger audiences due to its dated style. Criticisms include a lack of cohesive plot and unresolved storylines.
If you want to watch something that's just sex and 80's music, then this film will work but if you're expecting an actual movie with an actual plot and doesn't make you bored out of your mind with plots that are never built up and are either forgotten or resolved without reason, then don't waste your time.
Timeless Iconic and essentially the master class on the irreverently hilarious side to “Coming of Age” classroom comedy. Emphasis on irreverent and throw in legendary one-liners with a side of counterculture. It’s an inspiration to the comic geniuses who recognized and explored the genius of angsty teen comedy (i.e. John Hughes). Or a template for less imaginative who following the formula, delivered a stand-out teen ensemble, legendary one liners + signature hook, (i.e. American Pie). Alas, FT may not hold up to the hype for younger generations because later movies in the sub genre, appear to have gotten there first in a sleeker, more refined package. FT like many other “first on the field” films, lives in a time capsule. N.B. It goes without saying that Animal House is the true original classroom/campus comedy. FT is set apart by dramatic inclusion, often based on greatest fears of teenaging (i.e. unwanted pregnancy; rejection and the ever prevalent, ever predictable “where do I go from here?” question).
