"Dagon" is a passable adaptation of Lovecraft's "The Shadow over Innsmouth," capturing the town and monsters well. However, it lacks mystery and tension, with an unfulfilling final act and some poor CGI. Lovecraft fans might find it interesting, but it falls short overall.
Passable Lovecraftian nightmare.
Hectic, crazy, very creepy, cosmic horror. It’s got an old school vibe. One of those movies you hope the protagonists can escape the horror maze but you really doubt they do.
For the Lovecraft people out there, the is more an adaptation of The Shadow over Innsmouth than any other Lovecraft story. The first hour or so, is decent, but not awesome. It definitely feels like the town and the monsters are spot on, but the plot lacks any real mystery or tension and the last half-hour is very unfulfilling. It also has a few shots of horrible CGI which doesn’t help anything.If you’re interested for the Lovecraft, I’d encourage you to check it out, but it just falls short in my opinion.
