"**Civil War**" has mixed reviews. Some praise its intense moments, beautiful cinematography, and character development, particularly highlighting Kirsten Dunst's performance. However, others criticize it for being tame, lacking a clear message, and having weak direction and performances. The film is noted for its high tension and immersive battle scenes but is also described as empty, slow, and predictable.
Empty, completely empty of story, dialogues that have no influence on the development of anything, the film does not convey the chaotic atmosphere of war, it is empty even in that aspect. The weak direction brought completely disconnected and unnecessary scenes, sometimes it seemed like I was watching a film about another subject. The performances are weak and caricatured. Apart from two or three scenes, it is a completely disposable film.
You will enjoy— enjoy is definitely not the right word—this movie if you accept it on its own terms. All the personalities of today have been stripped out, but the underlying tensions are present in the background. It’s a beautiful film, a disturbing film, an important film.
The film has some brilliantly satisfying imagery and is brilliant at its usage of the civil war as simply a backdrop for the character development it presents. The film shows how a camera in itself is a weapon and what people do with it in times of chaos.
