"Caddo Lake" is divisive; some love its puzzle-like storytelling, while others may find it frustrating. It's praised for its intelligence, emotional depth, and replay value, though the twists are somewhat predictable. It's not a typical horror film, offering a surprising and beautiful narrative instead.
This is a movie that was divisive for my wife and myself. She’s one who just wants to enjoy a movie by sitting back and being carried through a story. I spend every second dissecting the bits of information to predict what is going to happen. That’s why she HATED this movie and I LOVED it. If you enjoy actively solving puzzles, you will probably stay engaged this entire movie. Just go in blind so nothing is spoiled, though the twists are very telegraphed. I’d liken it to a jigsaw puzzle where it’s easy to tell early on what the image will be, but it’s still surprising when you get an individual piece to fit.
I didn't mind the slow burn--it pays off. The filmmakers were careful with keeping the paths through the story coherent and moving forward. It was well cast (Lauren Ambrose remains a frustratingly underrated phenomenon of an actress). The only problem I had was that every reveal was "revealed" over and over again just to make sure we didn't miss it. I would have preferred additional unique details and/or more in depth exploration to those revelations rather than have similar plot content resurgence just to make SURE we're all on the same page. If it were Chekhov's gun they were basically waving it around every time it appeared in a scene.Overall, excellent flick, well worth a watch. I'm sure there are those who somehow still found it confusing, despite the filmmaker's overly exhaustive efforts to keep the narrative cogent. Most of us made it through Tenet with praise enough to spare, however, so trust your audience more. Leave that gun on the mantle; we'll spot it.
Too confusing
