Entry numero five in #30DaysOfCage is Alan Parker’s Birdy.Birdy is about a dude who thinks he’s a bird, played by Mathew Modine, and his buddy Al, played by Cage. That’s pretty much it! When Al returns from Vietnam he is called upon to break Birdy from his trance. This movie is okay. It felt like a Disney movie outside of all the cursing and nudity. I had a tough time pinning down what it was trying to say outside of “war is bad”.Modine was fine but Nic Cage, who was only 20 years old in this, was decent. He had two of his teeth removed without anesthesia for the role, which is pretty metal, so props to our guy.Movie Rating: 2.5/5Cage Rating 2/5Cage was decent and this performance is impressive for his young age, but this is pre-insane Cage so he doesn’t open up too much. Bonus point for getting his teeth pulled specifically for this role, though.
