Asteroid City received mixed reviews. Some praised its dazzling visuals, strong performances (especially from Johansson, Schwartzman, and Wright), and mid-century vibes. However, others criticized it for being boring, lacking realism, having emotionless characters, and a confusing or aimless plot. The film's style was noted as typical Wes Anderson, but opinions varied on its effectiveness.
Kitschy junk lacking realism and too boring to justify the lack of realism. The same Wes Anderson movie as always (e.g., precocious children) with even less of a point than usual.Clearly Hanks was dropped in to replace Murray. Other characters with large beaks were cast, likely because the director himself has a large beak.
A typical looking Wes Anderson film with a stellar cast but the story lost me.
I adored Asteroid City. Perhaps Wes’s saddest film to date, featuring spectacular performances from Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman and Jeffrey Wright. Like most of Wes’s films, the visuals are dazzling while the subject matter is crushing - just how I like it!A must watch for any Anderson-head.
