After a year of leaving fans on the edge, Bojack Horseman will finally return to Netflix with a fifth installation come this September 14th. Creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg has been praised for balancing pop culture with notes of melancholy, painting a realistic depiction of depression in a cartoon world where animals and humans live side by side.

That said, Season 4 was one of the more hopeful seasons, though it was still a whirlwind for the curmudgeonly protagonist. At a crossroads in his career, Bojack finds himself with an ailing mother and a potential teenage daughter. Drama, of course, ensues. But we’ll get to see how everything unfolds soon enough.

Bojack dropped the news in the most hilarious and millennial way.

Of course, Bojack Horseman promotional material wouldn’t be on brand without a full-fledged Twitter war. Claiming that a user was the “10000000 person” to ask him when the show would come back, Bojack revealed on Twitter that there will be a new batch of episodes on Friday, September 14th. This instigated a hilarious fake spar between Bojack and Netflix’s accounts throughout the thread.

Relationships will change in this season of Bojack Horseman.

It’s been nearly a year since season 4 of Bojack Horseman last dropped, so here’s a quick refresher on how everything that went down. On the happiest note of the season, Todd has successfully started a zombie clown dentist fitness program, because of course. In a much sadder turn of events, Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter’s relationship is on the rocks. At the end of the season, Diane confesses to her husband that she isn’t happy, so we’ll have to wait and see if they go their separate ways.

For Bojack, things are bittersweet. His professional life is moving along. After an intense encounter with Princess Carolyn, Bojack kindly promises to help his feline friend with her new show Philbert. His personal life is a bit trickier. His mother Beatrice is suffering from dementia, and it’s likely that she won’t be around for much longer. Then there’s the matter of Hollyhock. The season ends with the horse figuring out that he’s Hollyhock’s biological brother, not her father. He and Hollyhock share a sweet moment. She tells him that she doesn’t need any more fathers (she has eight adoptive ones), but that she’s never had a brother before.

The show’s marketing team isn’t horsing around when it comes to teasing fans. In the fifth season’s first promotional picture, a reptilian woman points a gun at Bojack, who is laying on the floor with his hand to his bleeding chest. A ritzy crowd stares at the scene intently. Looks bad, right? We’re almost certain that Bojack isn’t going to die, though. Many fans speculate that Bojack is simply shooting a scene for Princess Carolyn’s new TV series.

We’re excited to see how Bojack handles the tumultuous tides of his life in season 5 (and pray that he doesn’t actually die). While we wait for season 5 to drop, we’ll just be catching up on our other favorite animated shows.
